Clever Byiringiro was nine years old when we began sponsoring him in 2010 at a boarding school called Bright Academy in a rural part of Rwanda. Imagine living away from your parents and in a boarding school at the age of nine! At first, Clever was so quiet and reserved that it was difficult to strike up a conversation with him, but his teachers always reported that he was doing very well in class. Clever’s success at Bright Academy allowed us to move him in 2015 to a good secondary school in Kigali called Kagarama, where he became much more comfortable greeting and talking with others as he grew older. In 2021, Clever completed his final year of secondary school by earning the highest possible score on the required National Examinations—73 out of 73. Currently, he is in the “gap year” between high school and college and has been hired by Kagarama to teach physics and chemistry to its Senior 1 (Freshman) students. Clever is a very goal-oriented young man who has also developed a strong and engaging personality. His current goal is to pursue a career as either a medical doctor or a biomedical engineer. Clever could not have achieved this without your support and has expressed many times how grateful he is for this life-changing opportunity.
